Double Dragons Play with Pearl (Shuang Long Xi Qiu) - Lesson 27: Core-Activating Qigong Flow

Boost Digestion & Vitality in 7 Standing Moves

An excerpt from Taiyi Youlong Gong - China's ancient moving meditation system

This concise yet powerful "Double Dragons Play with Pearl" sequence gently massages abdominal organs through spiraling arm movements coordinated with stable stances. Perfect for office breaks or time-crunched mornings, this 7-form routine stimulates gastrointestinal motility (肠胃蠕动 cháng wèi rú dòng), enhances vital energy circulation (气血周流 qì xuè zhōu liú), and strengthens core stability.

Movement Benefits:

  • Stimulates peristalsis & digestive function

  • Activates abdominal meridian networks

  • Improves waist/spinal mobility

  • Enhances Qi-blood circulation

  • Strengthens lower body through stance work

  • Calms nervous system through mindful motion

Step-by-Step Guide

Perform all movements slowly with deep diaphragmatic breathing. Maintain soft knees.

Form 1: Horse Stance Palms Anchoring

  • Turn body left into Horse Stance (正马步 Zhèng Mǎbù)

  • Right palm descends to lower abdomen, palm up

  • Left palm draws horizontally to chest level, palm down

  • Palms face each other vertically (imagine holding large ball)

Form 2: Rotate to Bow Stance - Palms Suspended

  • Push through left foot, rotating right into Side Bow Stance (横弓步 Héng Gōngbù)

  • Swing both palms to hover beside waist (right at right hip, left at left hip)

  • Palms face inward toward each other horizontally

Form 3: Return to Horse Stance - Palms Revolving

  • Rotate left back to Horse Stance

  • Right palm spirals upward to chest (palm down)

  • Left palm spirals downward to lower abdomen (palm up)

  • Re-establish vertical palm opposition

Form 4: Rotate to Reverse Bow Stance

  • Push through right foot, rotating left into Left Side Bow Stance

  • Sweep both palms to hip positions (left palm at left hip, right at right hip)

  • Palms maintain inward-facing opposition

Form 5: Deepen Bow Stance - Knee Focus

  • Continue rotating left into full Left Bow Stance (左弓步 Zuǒ Gōngbù)

  • Bring both palms to hover inside left knee

  • Palms face each other diagonally downward

Form 6: Transition Through Horse Stance

  • Push through left foot, rotating right into Horse Stance

  • Draw palms toward abdomen, maintaining opposition

Form 7: Bow Stance Energy Release

  • Push through left foot, rotating right into Right Bow Stance

  • Rotate palms outward then thrust forward-upward

  • Double Palm Push (双推掌 Shuāng Tuīzhǎng) at eye-height

  • Fingertips align with eyebrows, energy projected forward

Complete Sequence Flow

Practice all seven forms in continuous fluid motion, synchronizing each rotation with breath:

  1. Inhale in Horse Stance (Form 1)

  2. Exhale into Side Bow (Form 2)

  3. Inhale back to Horse (Form 3)

  4. Exhale to opposite Bow (Form 4)

  5. Inhale deepen Bow (Form 5)

  6. Exhale through Horse (Form 6)

  7. Inhale gather, exhale push (Form 7)

Therapeutic Focus
The "imaginary ball" manipulation creates subtle internal massage through diaphragmatic engagement and fascial tension. Consistent practice:
✓ Regulates intestinal function
✓ Relieves abdominal stagnation
✓ Improves nutrient absorption
✓ Enhances renal/adrenal energy

Practice Notes

  • Perform 3-7 cycles per session

  • Prioritize waist-driven movement over arm force

  • Visualize energy circulating abdomen during rotations

  • Beginners may reduce stance depth

This Dragon-Pearl manipulation distills ancient Taoist visceral regulation techniques into an accessible standing practice. Ideal for modern practitioners seeking digestive optimization and core resilience within time constraints.
